Coach Insurance is only provided to British Rowing Members who have a Coach membership. This is only available to individuals who have a coaching qualification or who have been endorsed by their club - see https://www.britishrowing.org/join/membership-faqs/#coach. In other situations, you would need to speak to your club insurers to see if their cover would include non-qualified / incidental coaching. British Rowing does have resources for coaches via The Coaching Stream that your club/unqualified coaches may wish to access or you can find out more about qualifications here.
Yes, cover is provided for competing and training on a worldwide basis. However, in respect of the USA and Canada, British Rowing only allows cover for 1 week's training prior to an event in these territories.
You are only eligible to become a British Rowing member if you spend more than 183 days residing in the UK annually. The Liability Insurers who provide the Public Liability cover can only indemnify UK residents.
The British Rowing honorary safety advisor and their RowSafe guidance states;
'The key point to note is that red boards are intended as advice to river users. This is made clear on the Environment Agency website here. It is not the same as a river closure or a navigation restriction. It is up to the club to take the red boards into account when determining whether, or not, it is safe to continue to do what it plans to do'.
As the red and yellow boards are usually cautionary or warning notices relating to stream conditions and should be taken into consideration when risk assessing the use of a particular waterway and the experience / competency of the rowers, then liability cover would be in place for those clubs that chose to continue to row in these conditions. However, if there are any notices which specifically state do not enter the water that would be a different matter and insurance cover may well be compromised.
Always make sure you check with your water authority and if in doubt with your regional rowing council.

Yes, the definition of a Private Match is as follows: a competition arranged solely between the clubs or competitors concerned. There shall be no advertising for entries and no more than 4 clubs shall compete unless specific permission has been granted by the National Competition Committee. Organising club(s) should note that the competition requirements of section 5-2 of the Rules of Racing still apply and appropriate insurance cover is required. Provided the club follows the criteria above the insurance included with Club Affiliation Plus would cover this activity being put on by a club.
Clubs who select Affiliation Plus must take this at the point of renewal and the club insurance cover you receive via Affiliation Plus will be valid from 1 April to 31 March each calendar period. If your club already has an insurance policy in place, you may choose to cancel this policy, but before doing so, it is important to check that cover is not being reduced. For example, you may have a policy that includes buildings and equipment. If you are in any doubt, or wish to seek some guidance, please contact Marsh Sport.
British Rowing instructed Marsh Sport to provide cover for all clubs who purchase Club Affiliation Plus to be effective from 1 April for a period of 12 months each calendar year . Therefore we are unable to add existing clubs onto the policy beyond the 1 April for each subsequent 12 month policy period. Club details are declared to insurers on an annual basis, so British Rowing will be required to know which clubs will be opting for Affiliation Plus in advance of the policy period start date for each year.
The policy provided via Club Affiliation Plus is exclusively a liability policy and does not include buildings or equipment cover. Additional information about further cover Marsh Sport provides can be discussed with them by calling 0345 872 5060.
