Insurance for competitions

Affiliated competitions

Affiliated competition organisers (excluding clubs) receive £10m Public Liability and £10m Employers Liability for the following types of competitions. Competing members also receive £10m Public Liability via their British Rowing personal membership.

Affiliated competitions that are within the following criteria:

  • Competitions based in; England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Channel Isles, Isle of Man, Gibraltar
  • Competitions need to use British Rowing’s online entry system; currently BROE2
  • All competitors within the competition must be British Rowing individual members holding a valid race licence at the time of competition
  • Adhere to British Rowing’s Rules of Racing
  • Pay the full competition affiliation fee set by British Rowing
  • Pay the full result submission fees set by British Rowing

Approved Activities

  • Sliding seat rowing - inland
  • Sliding seat rowing – coastal – up to 5km offshore
  • Fixed seat rowing - inland
  • Fixed seat rowing – coastal – up to 5km offshore
  • Coastal sculling – up to 5km offshore
  • Beach Sprints

 

 


Registered non-competitive events

Organisers (excluding clubs) of non-competitive events registered with British Rowing receive £10m Public Liability and £10m Employers Liability for the following types of non-competitive events. Participants of non-competitive events also receive £10m Public Liability via their British Rowing personal membership.

All events which register as a non-competitive, meet must adhere to the following rules:

  • Non-competitive events based in; England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Channel Isles, Isle of Man, Gibraltar.
  • Register their event via British Rowing’s administrative declaration process.
  • 100% British Rowing membership for participants - Row, Race, Coach or Umpire
  • RowSafe adherence by participants promoted by the organising committee
  • Risk assessment
  • Safety plan
  • Route plan
  • Pay the full registration fee set by British Rowing

Approved activity which registered non-competitive events can receive cover for are as follows:

  • Recreational rowing - inland and coastal (up to 5km offshore)
  • Touring - inland and coastal (up to 5km offshore)
  • Stable boat rowing - inland and coastal (up to 5km offshore)

 

 


The insurance covers explained

Public liability insurance provides protection against legal liability for bodily injury to third parties and damage to third party property.

Protection against legal liability in respect of claims made for injuries suffered by a volunteer or employee during the course of authorised activities of the competition organisers.
