Introduction

As part of your membership with Independent Gymnastics Association Limited (IGA) you automatically receive the benefit of the association’s Combined Liability and Group Personal Accident insurance.

This web page provides an overview of how these policies benefit members, coaches and clubs, and can offer guidance in respect of the insurance policies provided. To understand what these covers are and to see the main terms and conditions that apply please make sure you refer to the downloads section of this website, where you will find the evidence of cover and insurer policy wordings.

Independent Gymnastics Affiliation Limited, including all affiliated clubs, coaches and members

Both the Liability and Personal Accident insurance apply when a member, coach or club is participating in any recognised activity of IGA. The permitted activities are:

  • Gymnastics (gymnastics for all)
  • Trampolining – members only other than birthday parties – max 25 with 2 gym coaches
  • Cheerleading
  • Womens gymnastics
  • Pre-school gymnastics
  • Acrobatic Gymnastics
  • Mens gymnastics
  • Tumbling
  • Rhythmic
  • Team gym
  • Double mini tramp – double mini trampoline involves a smaller trampoline with a run up
  • Trampolining events 
  • Cover is extended to include 3 free taster sessions (coaches will closely supervise them on these sessions
  • Freestyle Gymnastics
  • Birthday Parties
  • Holiday clubs

Alongside the Combined Liability insurance IGA have arranged a Personal Accident policy for members if they are accidentally injured when participating in a sanctioned activity or event, or whilst taking part in a club organised training activity.

  • Public Liability - cover for your legal liability of up to £15,000,000 any one occurrence. This insurance provides protection against legal liability for bodily injury to third parties and damage to third party property.
  • Professional Indemnity - cover for your legal liability of up to £10,000,000 any one claim and in the aggregate. This insurance covers coaches and those in the role of committee members & officers for claims made against them which allege that a third party has suffered an injury or financial loss caused by negligent acts, errors or omissions during coaching activities.
  • Employers Liability – cover for a club’s and home nation’s legal liability of up to £10,000,000 any one occurrence in respect of claims made against the affiliated entity for injuries caused to an employee or volunteer arising out of and in the course of their such employment.
  • Directors, Officers & Committee Liability – cover for a club’s legal liability up to £5,000,000 any one claim and in the aggregate for claims made directly against directors, officers, or committee members of a club for alleged wrongful acts in connection with the club affairs.

Insured Persons: All affiliated or approved members and coaches of IGA

Operative time: Whilst taking part in activities organised by the IGA including direct travel to and from home or place of activity.

Principal benefits:

  • Accidental Death £30,000
  • Permanent total disablement £30,000*
  • Loss of sight in one or both eyes £30,000
  • Loss of hearing in one ear £7,500
  • Loss of hearing in both ears £30,000
  • Loss of one or more limbs £30,000
  • Temporary total disablement £100 per week (excess 4 weeks, benefit period 52 weeks)
  • Hospitalisation benefit £50 per day, up to £750
  • Funeral expenses £10,000
  • Dental Expenses up to £500
  • Physiotherapy up to £500
  • Broken skull (excluding jaw and nose), lower leg, collar bone, ankle, elbow, upper or lower arm (including the wrist but not a Colles’ fracture) £250

*The basis of cover for permanent total disablement is any and every occupation.

Incident reporting

It is important that all incidents that may give rise to a claim, however minor, are reported to Marsh Sport as soon as possible after the event.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, the public liability insurance provided will defend your position, should you be sued for injury to a third party or damage to a third parties property. Please note any claims relating to deliberate or criminal acts are excluded.

We recommend that a designated person within your club is made responsible to record any reportable accident/incident. Records must be kept for at least 6 years, and longer where it involves a person under the age of 18 years. Names and addresses of any possible witnesses should also be recorded. Please ensure your club has an accident book to record all such information. In respect of Safeguarding allegations records should be kept indefinitely.

If the club is unincorporated, the officer (and its members) could be liable for all financial losses incurred by the club. The Directors and Officers insurance provided by IGA is in place to support you and your club for claims in respect of allegations which may come against the officer whilst undertaking their role. If the club is incorporated the directors may still find themselves personally liable and therefore Directors & Officers Insurance is essential. Please note this is a different type of cover to Professional Liability, which is a form of liability insurance which helps protect professional advice given by your club this is also known as errors and omissions cover.

Employers Liability protects the employer in the event of an injury to an employee, for which the employer is liable. Employers Liability could apply to clubs who employ coaches or volunteers to work on their behalf. Public Liability protects a club/member/volunteer if another member, or a member of the public, sues them for injury or damage caused.

Yes, as part of the IGA insurances Employers Liability cover is provided to your club, this insurance protects the club in the event of an injury to an employee, for which the employer is liable. Employers Liability could apply to clubs who employ coaches or volunteers who work on their behalf. 

No, if you would like to insure your equipment/premises we would recommend getting in touch with Marsh Sport.

Liability cover is provided for trips abroad that are recognised by IGA. However, the membership insurance does not include Travel Insurance, which can be obtained from Marsh Sport.
