Marsh Sport are the appointed insurance broker to Scottish Rowing. This web page sets out details of the insurances available via your membership and some frequently asked questions.

Introduction

Scottish Rowing, Scottish Rowing Centre Ltd, Scottish Rowing councils including employees, officers and officials, committees, committee members and volunteers, Scottish Rowing individually registered members, including officials, volunteers whether members or not and/or coach educators (coach to coach) coaches who are individually registered members of Scottish Rowing.

NB: Policy only provides indemnity to UK residents.

Recognised and approved activities of Scottish Rowing including any rowing training and competition (including indoor training & gym) training and/or competition activity recognised and approved by Scottish Rowing including personal, recreational rowing training, competitive rowing including indoor rowing tank facility and supervised gym area.

As part of your Scottish Rowing membership, you receive the benefit of the Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurances provided by Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE via Sportscover Europe Limited as follows:

  • Public Liability – £10,000,000 any one occurrence and in the aggregate in respect of Products Liability
  • Professional Indemnity - £10,000,000 any one occurrence and in the aggregate

The annual policies run from 1st April – 31st March (both days inclusive)


The covers explained

Public liability insurance provides protection against legal liability for bodily injury to third parties and damage to third party property.

Products liability insurance provides protection against legal liability to pay compensation including legal costs for death or bodily injury, or damage to third party property arising from products supplied.

Cover to protect a coach/ instructor for claims made against them which allege that a third party has suffered an injury or financial loss caused by negligent acts, errors or omissions during coaching/ tuition activities.

Please note the following also receive Directors & Officers and Employers Liability cover:

  • Scottish Rowing Ltd
  • Scottish Rowing Centre Ltd
  • Scottish Rowing Councils

The annual policies run from 1st April – 31st March (both days inclusive)

Please note members and coaches also receive the benefit of Personal Accident cover provided by Aviva Insurance Ltd, which offers enhanced benefits to what has previously been available.

Personal Accident cover provides a set financial payment in the event of an accidental injury, such as death, permanent disability, physiotherapy, dental expenses, etc.

The main benefits provided are as follows:

  • Death up to £50,000
  • Permanent Total Disablement* up to £50,000
  • Medical expenses up to £10,000
  • Physiotherapy up to £500
  • Dental & Optical expenses up to £750
  • Hospitalisation £50 per day, up to £750 total
  • Convalescence up to £100
  • Funeral expenses up to £10,000
  • Rehabilitation expenses up to £10,000

*The basis of cover for permanent total disablement is any and every occupation

Broken bones covered:

  • Arm (Humerus, Radius & Ulna) or Wrist (Carpals) - £250
  • Leg (Femur, Tibia, Fibula), Ankle (Tarsals) or Kneecap (Patella) - £250
  • Skull (excluding facial bones), Collar bone (Clavicle), Shoulder Blade (Scapula) - £250

Maximum benefit per claim - £500

Report an incident

All incidents that could give rise to a claim must be reported reported to Marsh Sport at your earliest opportunity.

Any writ or summons must be forwarded on immediately.

You should not admit liability under any circumstances as the insurers will respond to all allegations on your behalf.

Frequently asked questions

As part of your Scottish Rowing membership, you receive the benefit of up to £10m Public Liability and up £10m Professional Indemnity insurance. Yes, members of Scottish Rowing do receive a range of personal accident benefits, to review the cover please read the schedule in the downloads section. 

Both the Public Liability and Personal Accident policies provide cover on a worldwide basis, you must be undertaking/participating in a recognised activity of Scottish Rowing for the insurance covers to be operative.

 Yes, clubs are insured under the Public Liability cover to run learn-to-row sessions and taster days.

The following activities are insured via the Scottish Rowing insurance programme: rowing training and competition (including indoor training & gym) training and/or competition activity recognised and approved by Scottish Rowing Ltd including personal, recreational rowing training, competitive rowing including indoor rowing tank facility and supervised gym area.

Yes, clubs are insured under the Public Liability cover to host events and regattas, these must be run in accordance with RowSafe Scotland.

RowSafe Scotland provides general guidance on safe practice in rowing and related activities.  It remains the responsibility of each club to maintain up-to-date risk assessments and define and monitor its own safety practices, guidance and procedures specific to its environment and activities.  

Yes the Liability policy does cover the use of private boats and equipment.

The Scottish Rowing insurance provided to affiliated clubs does not provide any insurance cover for boathouses, equipment /trailers. Marsh Sport are able to provide you with a quotation if you would like to contact them on 0345 872 5060 or email marshsport@marsh.com
